This Flora and Fauna is a practical ecology group.

Meeting monthly on the third Wednesday 2pm – 5pm. Some whole days that will involve travelling. You may get wet and dirty!

Feb 21st Initial meeting and Introduction to Freshwater Ecology
Mar 20th Anton Lakes – sampling freshwater plants and ID
Apr 17th Start 1pm. Anton Lakes – sampling freshwater animals. Sample sorting, counting and ID
May 15th Quadrat sampling and recording the ecology of primroses and cowslips. Plant aggression. Songbird identification and sampling (Smartphone needed)
Jun 19th All day trip to New Forest for reptiles, wild gladiolus and to study the distribution of three species of heathers. Meet in New Forest (Near Lyndhurst at 10.30). Bring packed lunch / drinks and Boots
Jul 17th Andover’s wild orchids. Meet near A303
Aug 21st The ecology of Harewood Forest
Sep 18th and 19th
Two-day trip to Dorset for seashore, sand dune and heathland ecology
Oct 16th Mosses, lichens and fungi of Harewood Forest
Nov 20th Predator-prey relationships. Holly-leaf-miner expt. Indoor
Dec 18th Dormouse and / or harvest mouse surveying for TVBC. Skills provided during the session with the hope that folks will use those skills over the Xmas time to help TVBC locate both species locally. This will inform planning decisions and encourage the local conservation strategy
